The fitness of star Pakistan opener, Saim Ayub is not only a cause of concern for his national team, but also for his Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Peshawar Zalmi. The promising batter has been away from the game since suffering a horrific ankle injury during the Cape Town Test Vs South Africa, and was ruled out of the Champions Trophy as well.

Will Saim Ayub take part in PSL?

As per reports by Cricket Pakistan, Saim is currently going rehabilitation under the supervision of Pakistan trainer, Hanif Malik. On Tuesday, a detailed medical assessment of the opener will be conducted and based on that report, a final call will be taken on his participation in the upcoming PSL season.

Hanif Malik, who has previously worked with Pakistan Cricket Team is currently supervising Saim's recovery process.

The star player, who was set to feature as an opener in Pakistan's Champions Trophy squad, got ruled out of the mega tournament and also missed the white-ball tour of New Zealand.

How did Saim Ayub got injured?

In the Cape Town Test, Saim chased away a delivery which was racing towards the boundary ropes, and while trying to stop the ball, Saim twisted his ankle and was immediately taken off the field.

He missed the remainder of the Test series and while the initial scans showed that he'll recover in 6 weeks, PCB didn't want to take any chances with the youngster and as a precautionary measure, he was not included in the Champions Trophy squad.

In the PSL, he will play alongside his former skipper, Babar Azam, as both the players are included in Platinum category.
