If reports are to be believed, then Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings captain, is likely to make his way into the India T20I squad for the upcoming Asia Cup event, which is set to commence next month. Iyer, who last played a T20I game in December 2023, is set to regain his place in the side, courtesy of his outstanding white-ball form this year.

However, if Iyer is drafted in the T20I squad for the Asia Cup 2025, he is likely to replace someone who was already a part of the team when India last played a T20I series. The Men in Blue last featured in a T20I series against England before the Champions Trophy. Here are three players from that series whom Iyer could replace.

1) Rinku Singh

When Rinku Singh had a tremendous IPL 2023 season, he was immediately drafted into the India T20I squad. The left-handed batter had some memorable performances in the Blue jersey, but off late, Rinku's dip in form is a cause of worry for the India side.

(Rinku Singh vs England in 2025)

This year, Rinku featured in three T20Is for India but had a disappointing campaign, averaging 19 and striking at just 121.88. These are disappointing numbers for someone who had a breakout season in 2023. Plus, his IPL form in 2025 season was also a cause of worry.

(Rinku Singh IPL 2025)

He scored 473 runs in the 2023 IPL edition, but failed in the subsequent two seasons, with an aggregate of 168 and 206 in the next two editions.

2) Shivam Dube

Ever since moving to the Chennai Super Kings, Shivam Dube has resurrected his IPL career, and stellar performances earned him a place in the India T20I side. While he did decently in the T20I series against England, his overall numbers suggests that Dube is yet to find his feet at the international stage.

While Dube has had decent numbers in T20I, his numbers on sluggish wickets tell a different tale.

As the numbers suggest, Dube struggles in tricky conditions, and his strike rate also drops. The Asia Cup will be held in the UAE, and the surface there will be slow, and sluggish, and Dube might struggle there.

3) Nitish Kumar Reddy

Another batter who was drafted into the side after one good IPL season - Nitish Kumar Reddy had a dream debut for India, as the batter amassed 90 runs in three matches, at a strike rate of 180. However, his IPL numbers this season was a point to worry for the selectors.

(Nitish Reddy in IPL 2025)

As the stats suggest, Nitish Reddy had a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, as he could only score 182 runs in 13 matches and had a strike rate of just 118.95. Plus, he was not used as an all-rounder, and in UAE conditions, India will already have Hardik Pandya as the seam-bowling all-rounder, and the conditions might not allow India to take two pace bowling all-rounders.
