India star cricketer Shreyas Iyer is likely to be rewarded for his outstanding recent performances. According to reports, Iyer could make a return to India’s Test and T20I teams, especially with the Asia Cup 2025 coming up next month.

Even though he was left out of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, his strong form has caught the attention of selectors again. The Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the T20 format this time and starts on September 9. The Indian squad is expected to be announced in the third week of August, and Iyer might be included.

In-Form Shreyas Iyer Set for India Comeback

At 30 years old, the Mumbai-based batter is seen as a strong option for India’s middle order across all formats. Sources told the Times of India that Iyer’s skills and experience were missed during the recent England series.

"We need Iyer's class and experience in the middle order in all formats. It's something which we missed in England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The selectors are aware that Iyer is an excellent player of spin bowling, which will be crucial in a home season that involves four Tests — two each against West Indies and South Africa," sources said.

Iyer hasn’t played a T20I for India since 2023 against Australia. His last Test appearance was in 2024 against England. Earlier, a back injury and a dip in form led to him being dropped, and there was some controversy over him not playing domestic cricket. However, since then, he has made a strong comeback.

In the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy, he played well for Mumbai, scoring 480 runs in five matches at an average of 68.57, including two centuries. Since his Test debut in 2021, Iyer has scored 811 runs in 14 matches, averaging 36.86, with one century.

Iyer also shined in the IPL 2025 season. As captain of Punjab Kings, he led the team to the final, though they lost to RCB. Personally, he had a great season, scoring 604 runs in 17 innings, including six fifties.

In his T20I career for India, Iyer has scored 1104 runs in 47 innings, with a highest score of 74* and a strike rate of 136.12.

Notably, his last international appearance was in the Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai on March 9, where India beat New Zealand. Iyer was India’s top scorer in the tournament.
