Ahead of the World Cup 2023 clash between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has lauded Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his exceptional performance and leadership skills.

Yuvraj hails Rohit's batting & captaincy before epic final

Under Rohit's captaincy, India has seen a remarkable run in the World Cup, securing 10 consecutive victories with the skipper leading from the front, scoring 550 runs.

In a conversation with Sports Tak, Yuvraj praised Rohit's batting by pointing out his ability to score prolifically. He lauded the 36-year-old's batting finesse, highlighting his potential to score rapidly and significantly in both short and long innings. The southpaw further commended Rohit's team-centric approach, attributing his success in white-ball cricket to his prioritization of the team's needs over individual accolades.

“Rohit Sharma bats on a different level. If he plays 40 balls, he'll score 7-80 runs. If he plays 100 balls, he might score a double hundred. Rohit Sharma is a team player, he's always been a team player. For him, the team always comes first. That's the reason he's been so successful, especially in white-ball cricket,” said Yuvraj.

Rohit’s leadership qualities, particularly under pressure, were also a point of focus for Yuvraj. He credited the explosive opener’s experience, including his five IPL titles, for his adept handling of bowlers and strategic intelligence.

“The good thing about Rohit is that he's a very good captain under pressure. He's gained a lot of experience with the five IPL titles that he's won. He knows when and how to use his bowlers,” added the former all-rounder.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue have been on a remarkable streak in the tournament, finishing atop the league stage with a flawless record and defeating New Zealand by 70 runs in the semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

On the other hand, Australia, despite a rocky start with losses against India and South Africa, rebounded strongly to finish third in the league stage and subsequently stitched together a seventh-match winning streak.

The final promises to be an exciting culmination of the tournament, with India's impressive winning run pitted against Australia's resilience and championship pedigree.
