As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) toppled Mumbai Indians (MI) to claim their fourth victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad credited MS Dhoni for his match defining 4 ball 20 runs finishing knock.

In an already hyped IPL el Clasico game between Mumbai and Chennai, fans witnessed a vintage version of Dhoni hitting an impressive stroke play that eventually made the difference for CSK.

After CSK struggled in middle-overs, Dhoni's blazing 20-run finish propelled them to 206 runs, which proved to be a steep target for MI.

Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, botched a great start due to regular fall of wickets, and despite Rohit Sharma's lone heroics, MI fell short of 20 runs at the end.

Having said that, winning captain Ruturaj Gaikwad offered credit where it's due to his mentor, MS Dhoni. He playfully called MS a 'young skipper' coming up with decisive contributions of three sixes in the final over.

"Our young skipper scoring those 3 sixes helped us out a lot. To start off with you always need extra 10-15 runs on this type of wicket. Middle phases of the game, Bumrah and co bowled well and pulled it back but we were able to cross the 200 run-mark," Gaikwad said.

Gaikwad opined that on a hitter-friendly wicket like Wankhede, one must always aim for 10-15 runs extra, and that's exactly what CSK did. While Jasprit Bumrah pulled things back in the middle, MS Dhoni's unreal finish helped CSK cross the 200-runs mark.

Ruturaj Gaikwad added that CSK needed both skills and execution on Wankhede's pitch, and he is glad that Pathirana, Deshpande, and Shardul stepped up.

"With the ball as well we executed out plans really well. These kind of venues demand both the skills, you need to be on the mark with both. Whenever (Matheesha) Pathirana came on he nailed those yorkers, and Tushar (Deshpande) and Shardul (Thakur) aided him well," he added.

The CSK captain also explained that due to a niggle, Ajinkya Rahane was moved up the order, and as a leader, he was open to adjusting his position for the team's sake.

"We just need to keep it simple and encourage everyone to be in a good headspace. Jinx (Ajinkya Rahane) was carrying a bit of a niggle and we thought it could help him to open and I am fine to play anywhere," Gaikwad concluded.
