The teams in the Indian Premier League are gearing up for the mega-auction ahead of the league's 2025 season. The cricket experts think that there will be a huge change in the dynamics after the auction. One of the most talked about players is the former MI skipper, Rohit Sharma.

When it comes to winning the IPL title as a captain, Rohit Sharma is a pro at it. He has won five titles as the MI skipper, which is incidentally the joint most with MS Dhoni.

However, there has been a change in the dynamics in the MI dressing room with the management selecting Hardik Pandya as their skipper ahead of IPL 2024. Since then rumours have been rife that MI might release their most successful captain ahead of the IPL 2025. With some valuable assets like - Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan and youngsters like Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, etc. at their disposal it will be interesting to see the retention list of the franchise ahead of the next season.

Sanjiv Goenka answers questions about targeting Rohit Sharma for IPL 2025

Amidst such rumours, the LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka has given a bit of a hint about the team's franchise in the upcoming mega auction. In a recent interaction with Sportstak, Goenka was heard talking about the rumours of LSG setting aside a heavy sum of ₹ 50 Cr for Rohit Sharma.

"You tell me one thing, do you, or anybody know, whether Rohit Sharma is coming to the auctions or not? All these speculations are without any reason. Whether Mumbai Indians will release Rohit Sharma or not, whether he is coming to the auction or not, even if he comes if you are going to use 50 per cent of your salary cap on one player, how will you manage the other 22 players?" - Sanjiv Goenka replied when asked about setting aside money for Rohit.

When asked about whether Rohit Sharma is on his wish list, Goenka said - "Everybody has got a wish list. You want the best player, and best captain to be in your team. It is not about wanting. What you have got and what is available. What can you do with that? This is that thing. I can want anyone but the same goes for all the franchises. You will not get everyone."

Notably, LSG is one of the two new teams that have entered the league. In their first two seasons, LSG made it to the playoffs, however in IPL 2024 they failed to continue their consistent show.

Rohit Sharma's IPL career

Besides winning the IPL title with Mumbai Indians five times, Rohit Sharma has also won the title as a player with the Deccan Chargers in 2008. The wealth of Sharma's experience in the league is irreplaceable.

Rohit has so far played 257 IPL matches, scoring 6,628 runs in them at an average of 29.70 and a strike rate of 131.10. Sharma has two IPL centuries and 43 half-centuries under his belt.
