Dawid Malan brought an end to his 62-match T20I career mere days prior to celebrating his 37th birthday on August 28, 2024. In an English international career spanning seven years of top-level cricket, the dashing left-handed batter reached the pinnacle of ICC T20I batting rankings and also conquered the 2022 T20 World Cup with his teammates in Australia.

Celebrating Malan’s decorated international career, here at OneCricket, we take a look at his five highest scores in T20I matches.

Dawid Malan celebrated his international debut with a series-winning knock against South Africa in Cardiff in June 2017. Batting at number three, the cricketer arrived to the crease following the early dismissal of Jason Roy. Malan faced 44 deliveries off the subsequent 12 overs and led England’s recovery with a 105-run stand with Alex Hales. The left-hander himself belted 78 runs and glittered his innings with 12 boundaries and a couple of sixes to set up England’s 181-run total upfront.

After bowlers Chris Jordan and Tom Curran kept South Africa down by 19 runs, Malan was fittingly rewarded with a ‘Player of the Match’ tag to cap the series finale.

4. 78* (47) vs Pakistan, 2022

In October 2022, Dawid Malan stood up to the occasion for England in yet another series finale, this time crashing the Pakistani attack at Lahore. In game seven of the seven-match series, he arrived to the crease within the opening powerplay and remained unbeaten till the end with 78 runs from 47 balls.

Whacking eight boundaries and three sixes, Malan’s raging knock turbo-charged England to 209-3 from 20 overs. Hosts Pakistan failed to keep up with the asking run-rate in their chase and eventually fell by 67 runs to hand England a 4-3 series victory.

3. 82 (49) vs Australia, 2022

As part of England’s touring party to Australia in late-2022, Dawid Malan clubbed 82 runs from just 49 balls in the second T20I of the three-match series. Arriving to the crease with England reeling at 21-1, soon to be 54-4, Malan smeared seven boundaries and four huge sixes at Canberra’s Manuka Oval as his team raced to a competitive 178-7 at the end of 20 overs.

Malan’s knock turned out to be a series-defining one as England sealed the match by eight runs.

2. 99* (47) vs South Africa, 2020

Dawid Malan toured South Africa in late-2020 for England’s three-match T20I series against the hosts as the world’s number one ranked batter. In match three of the series, the cricketer justified his tag by pounding an unbeaten 99 from just 47 deliveries with 11 boundaries and five sixes. Chasing 192 for a 3-0 series sweep, Malan arrived to the crease in the fourth over after the opening dismissal of Jason Roy.

He went on to share an unbroken 167-run stand with fellow half-centurion Jos Buttler to take England to a nine-wicket victory with more than two overs to spare.

1. 103* (51) vs New Zealand, 2019

Dawid Malan cracked his first and lone T20I century to date by scoring 103* from 51 balls against New Zealand at Napier in 2019. Electrocuting the Kiwi attack, Malan recorded his 100th run off just his 48th delivery to smash the fastest T20I ton by an Englishman at the time. His innings, laced with nine boundaries and six sixes, coupled with captain Eoin Morgan’s 41-ball 91 blazed England to 241-3 from 20 overs.

Later in the game, Matt Parkinson bowled England to victory with a four-wicket haul as they brought the five-match series to levelling terms in the fourth game.
