Fast bowler Haris Rauf snapped at a reporter after Pakistan’s 6-run win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI. He said the players are not robots when questioned about the team’s choking in the ICC or any similar big event.

In the first ODI held at Rawalpindi, Pakistan restricted Sri Lanka to 293 after scoring 299 runs in the first inning.

Rauf starred with the ball, picking up four wickets for 61 runs in 10 overs.

Haris Rauf hit back at criticism

Meanwhile, in the post-match press conference, Haris Rauf was confronted by a reporter.

The question was about the pattern of senior players performing well in bilateral series but failing to deliver when it matters most, in semi-finals and finals.

In reply, Rauf explained that cricketers are often seen as machines who never make mistakes, but in reality, they are human beings under immense pressure.

"As I previously said, there is no forgiveness in our field. You guys think we are robots and put in a machine. We are human beings and can do mistakes. We try to learn from it. As a player we believe in our skills and never let doubt creep in," Rauf said.

Rauf’s statement comes at a time when the Pakistan cricket team is under constant scrutiny for its inconsistent performances in big tournaments.

They’ve been eliminated from the group stages itself in the 2023 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.

In the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan lost to India thrice, including in the finals. However, Haris Rauf remains defiant of the concerning pattern.

Haris Rauf is coming off a 2-match ban

Interestingly, Haris Rauf had a tough few weeks after the ICC banned him for two games for his misconduct during the Asia Cup 2025.

He was involved in a heated exchange with Indian players and also made provocative gestures, resulting in an official complaint.

ICC announced a 30% match fee fine on Rauf, along with four demerit points. The demerit points accounted for four within a 24-month period, meaning Haris Rauf had to be banned for two games as per ICC rules.
