'You Got To Be Honest With...': Suryakumar Yadav On His Chances Of Playing In World Cup 2023

Indian T20 stalwart Suryakumar Yadav has been quite candid about his struggles in the 50-over format.

A behemoth in the shortest format of the game, Surya has failed to match his exploits in ODIs, despite a plethora of opportunities.

With Shreyas Iyer out of the reckoning for a significant part of the ongoing year due to injury, Surya was entrusted by the team management to plug the vacuum in the middle-order but the 32-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations.

In 24 ODI innings, SKY has managed 511 runs at an average of 24.33, which also includes three consecutive golden ducks against Australia earlier this year.

Recently, skipper Rohit Sharma made a big revelation in the media regarding Shreyas' fitness status. He said that Shreyas' recovery is going as planned, and once declared fit, the right-handed batsman will slot his way back into the squad.

In that case, Surya will likely miss out on selection in the World Cup squad. When asked about the same in a recent media interaction, Surya was quite honest about his chances, but he also added that he ain't thinking much about it during the midst of the ongoing series.

"You got to be honest with yourself. You can't hide behind the bush. At the same time I am not thinking too much about what's going to happen ahead, thinking about this series," Suryakumar said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

After missing out in the ODI series and the first couple of T20Is, Surya found form in the 3rd match as he smashed an unbeaten 83 off 44 deliveries to help India gun down the target of 160 with ease.

The stylish 360-degree batsman will look to emulate the same in the series-decider on Sunday.
