India wins Asia Cup but Suryakumar, Salman Agha stir up more hostilities
India captain Suryakumar Yadav and his Pakistani counterpart Salman Agha stirred up more hostilities, doing so prior to the final of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. While Suryakumar reportedly refused to do trophy photoshoot alongside Agha, the two players also did not talk to rival country presenters at the toss. In a rare occurrence, two presenters were present at the toss in the form of Pakistan’s Waqar Younis and India’s Ravi Shastri. Both Younis and Shastri spoke with Salman and Suryakumar respectively before play commenced.
As it turned out, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team ended up winning the Asia Cup in a thrilling final-over finish.
Kuldeep Yadav creates Asia Cup history with four-fer vs PAK
Ace India spinner Kuldeep Yadav doused Pakistan by bagging sensational figures of 4-30 in the final of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai. The cricketer dismissed Saim Ayub early in his spell, before claiming three wickets in the final over of his four-over workload. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav went past former Sri Lanka captain and legendary paceman Lasith Malinga in the process to become the leading wicket-taker in the history of the Asia Cup. Kuldeep’s Asia Cup tally currently stands at 36 wickets, i.e., three scalps ahead of Malinga’s 33.
Amita Sharma named chairperson of Women’s selection committee
Former India Women fast bowler Amita Sharma has been named as the new chairperson of the Women’s national selection committee. The 43-year-old will be replacing fellow former cricketer Neetu David for the high-profile BCCI role. During her playing days, Amita represented Team India Women in five Tests, 116 ODIs and 41 T20I matches; picking up 108 international wickets in the process while accruing 1,391 runs with the bat.
With Amita Sharma being appointed as new chief selector, she will also be accompanied by Shyama Dey, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma and Sravanthi Naidu in the selection panel.
Jayesh George becomes chairman of WPL before 2026 season
Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president Jayesh George has been appointed as the first-ever chairman of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The decision was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. George is now expected to oversee the smooth functioning of the WPL 2026 season in India next year. The WPL 2026 season is on course to commence early in January in order to avoid scheduling conflicts with the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
Litton ruled out, Jaker Ali to lead Bangladesh in AFG T20Is
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled Bangladesh’s 16-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the Afghanistan team in the UAE. Captain Litton Das was ruled out of the series as the blistering top-order batter is yet to recover from his back injury. The BCB has named Jaker Ali as interim skipper of the team, and the wicketkeeper-batter will be accompanied by several star attractions like Mustafizur Rahman, Rishad Hossain, Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy and Taskin Ahmed among others.
