'Yash Dayal Has Potential…' RCB Coach Justifies Speedster’s IPL 2024 Signing

Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Yash Dayal was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the recently-concluded IPL 2024 auction event in UAE. The 26-year-old previously represented the Gujarat Titans before the franchise released him in November 2023.

Dayal starred in the Titans' historic title triumph in IPL 2022 before enduring a torrid season the following year.

A few days after his IPL 2024 auction windfall, RCB coach Andy Flower explained why the franchise acquired the cricketer despite his lacklustre returns for the Gujarat Titans in 2023.

RCB coach explains Yash Dayal signing for IPL 2024

RCB coach Andy Flower defended Yash Dayal's signing at the IPL 2024 auction and claimed that the speedster showed immense potential with the ball during the IPL 2023 season for Gujarat Titans. While speaking at JioCinema, he said:

“We saw some of Yash Dayal’s potential last year, certainly with the new ball for swing and wicket-taking potential. I know he had a hard time at the death occasionally, but we believe he has got high potential and we are looking for great things from him.”

Yash Dayal made his competitive debut for Uttar Pradesh during India's 2018 domestic home season.

The uncapped Indian cricketer was roped in by Gujarat Titans before IPL 2022, where he bagged an impressive tournament haul of 11 wickets from just nine games. The following season, Dayal conceded runs at nearly 12-an-over and managed to claim just two wickets from five appearances, thus resulting in his ouster from the franchise.

He will be joining the RCB camp for the IPL 2024 season alongside fellow new recruits Alzarri Joseph, Tom Curran and former Titans teammate Lockie Ferguson.
