Cummins has hit out at Cricket Australia [Twitter]
Heading into the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 against India, one of Australia's major problems is their lack of match-time. While several Indian players featured in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Australian players had time-off from the game, with the likes of Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Michael Neser playing County Cricket.
Several former Australian players have lashed out at Cricket Australia's (CA) inability to schedule warm-up matches. Speaking at an event organised by ICC at The Oval on Sunday, Skipper Pat Cummins laid down many concerns regarding Australia's lack of match-practice
As quoted by Indian Express, Cummins stated with a jam-packed season ahead, it is better to be underdone than overdone. Following the WTC Final 2023, Australia will clash against arch-rivals England in 'The Ashes 2023' beginning June 16.
Here's what Cummins said
"Breaks are rare to come by. I have always said, with six Test matches (including five in the Ashes), it is better to be slightly underdone than overdone. I am talking from a bower’s point of view. So I want to be physically fresh. Back home, we did lot of training. We have trained hard, rejuvenated and refreshed and are keen."
However, Cummins, 30, backed Australian bowlers to exploit the conditions at The Oval, where they have a poor track record. Australia will be without pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out of the final due to an injury.
The pacer also admitted that India has pushed Australia to their limits and have had the upper hand lately.
India have beaten Australia in their last three Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, which makes this one-off Test a mouth-watering affair.
