'Would've Been Dropped Under Kohli-Shastri..', IND Great's Blunt Take On Prasidh Krishna

India were expected to prove their mettle against South Africa in the first Test at Centurion; however, they ended up being steamrolled, losing the encounter by an innings and 32 runs.

While the batting remained in question before the start of the series, the bowling let fans and the team down, showing a lack of discipline and learning.

Debutant Prasidh Krishna became the focal point of discussion after the loss for his poor bowling outing, where the fast bowler failed to utilise helpful conditions and leaked runs in abundance.

Former India international Sanjay Manjrekar has given his blunt opinion about Krishna, that the bowler would have been dropped under the earlier Virat Kohli-Ravi Shastri regime.

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Manjrekar said that the current management believes in giving a fair run and that Krishna could also play the New Year Test while raising doubts about all-rounder Shardul Thakur's spot in XI.

Here's what Manjrekar said

“If Mukesh Kumar plays, I don't think too many people will be unhappy. They will be looking at how he is bowling in the nets and think if it is fair on Prasidh Krishna because that is something the new management cares about, giving a fair run."

"The earlier team management would have been ruthless. Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were trigger-happy with such things. These guys might give one more go. But it is a two-match series, they might be keen to make changes."

"Shardul Thakur plays because he can bat. He plays especially in foreign conditions because India is always a little wary of their batting, and you saw why India is a little uncertain about their batting, and hence, Shardul Thakur tends to make the playing XI,"

Meanwhile, India have drafted Avesh Khan in place of injured Mohammed Shami for the second Test, with Mukesh Kumar also on the bench. The second and final Test gets underway from January 3 at Cape Town.
