In a significant development, India have added Avesh Khan to their squad for the upcoming second Test against South Africa in Cape Town. Avesh replaces veteran speedster Mohammed Shami, who was earlier ruled out of the tour due to ankle injury.

Avesh recently grabbed the limelight through an impressive bowling performance for India-A in the tour game against South Africa-A in Pretoria. Therefore, the pacer, regarded for his ability to hit the deck, has been rewarded with a Test call-up.

In 38 First-Class matches, Avesh Khan has 149 scalps to his name at an average of 22.65 and a strike rate of 43.5. Considering how Prasidh Krishna bowled in Centurion, it won't be surprising if the visitors hand him his debut Test cap in Cape Town.

Regarding the series, the hosts took an unassailable 1-0 lead on Thursday, as they thrashed the visiting team by an innings and 32 runs at the SuperSport Park inside three days. Riding on Dean Elgar's magnificent century, the Proteas gained a mammoth first innings lead and rattled India for a paltry 131-run total, securing an emphatic win.

The second Test between the two teams starts on January 3, Wednesday, at the iconic Newlands Stadium.
