Team India, under Rohit Sharma, became the first World Cup 2023 team to qualify for the semi-finals owing to their unbeaten run. The captain himself has led from the front, as his batting bombardment within the opening powerplay has ensured that his side is consistently getting off to a blazing start at the top.

Apart from bludgeoning a match-winning ton against Afghanistan, Sharma also slapped thunderous 80s against England and Pakistan; and sparkling 40s against New Zealand, Bangladesh and South Africa. To date, the dashing Indian opener has minted 442 runs from eight World Cup 2023 innings at an average of over 55, all while boasting a staggering strike-rate of 122.77.

Sharma’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad has credited team’s collective efforts for India’s unbeaten run in the tournament so far, and has expressed his desire of seeing his former protégé lifting the coveted World Cup title.

Dinesh Lad wants Rohit Sharma to lift World Cup 2023

Dinesh Lad, Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach, recently expressed his confidence over the Indian team for lifting the 2023 World Cup trophy at home. While speaking with the ANI, Lad said:

“I am sure India will win the World Cup this year. Because all our players are performing really well. Out batters and bowlers are producing great performances. I want to see this World Cup trophy in Rohit Sharma's hands. I have coached him since he was 12.”

Team India started off their World Cup 2023 campaign with emphatic run-chase triumphs over Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand in successive games. In their subsequent three fixtures, the ‘Men in Blue’ ended up batting first only to trounce England, Sri Lanka and South Africa with emphatic margins to extend their winning streak to eight matches.

All set to finish the league stage at the top of the World Cup 2023 points table, Rohit Sharma and co. will go up against Netherlands in their final match before heading out for a semi-final standoff against New Zealand on November 15.
