They say the right things happen at the right time, and no story proves it better than Suryakumar Yadav and Jitesh Sharma. Making his international debut in his 30s, Suryakumar Yadav inspired thousands of youngsters to have faith in their abilities and hard work.
Following the path, Jitesh Sharma is set to make his international comeback on the big stage of the Asia Cup 2025. Speaking in a recent interview, the Indian wicketkeeper batter hailed the Indian T20 skipper as ‘an inspiration to many’.
Jitesh Sharma Hails Suryakumar Yadav’s Brilliance
After making his T20I debut for India in 2023, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma is set for his international comeback in the upcoming Asia Cup. Having an exceptional season of IPL for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the wicketkeeper batter impressed the selectors and earned a call-up ahead of the marquee event.
As Jitesh Sharma is all set to play under Suryakumar Yadav, his late rise has become an inspiration to the wicketkeeper-batter. In an interview with The Times of India, Jitesh praised India’s T20I captain, calling him one of the finest T20I batters in the world.
“Surya bhai is an inspiration for so many people. He made his international debut at 31. It gives lots of hope for all the late bloomers. He is one of the best T20I batters in the world. He can manipulate the field, he can tear apart any bowling attack,” Jitesh said.
Surya Has Been A Learning Institution For Jitesh Sharma
Even being a household name in Mumbai cricket, Suryakumar Yadav donned the Team India jersey in 2021 in a T20I clash against England, and there was a lookback after that. After Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is last year, Surya took the captain’s reins. Praising his brilliance, Jitesh Sharma revealed he idolizes the Indian star.
“Wo talent ke bhandaar hai, mai unse seekhne ki koshish karta rehta hoon, unko copy karne ki koshish karta hoon (He is a storehouse of talent; I keep trying to learn from him and often try to emulate him). I used to copy him a lot. But now I have started to execute the shots as well. Ek Supla aaya IPL final mey (I managed to hit one Surya special in the IPL final),” he added.
As the Asia Cup is commencing on September 9, Team India is set to start their journey on September 10 against the UAE. As defending champions, they’re eager to reclaim their throne.
