On the occasion of Guru Purnima, Virat Kohli's childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, spoke about his most excellent student, who went on to become one of the greatest cricketers of his era.

On Sunday, Star Sports released a video of Rajkumar Sharma, where the prolific coach talked about his first encounter with a 10-year-old Virat Kohli, his work ethic and zeal, and his notorious anecdotes.

Sharma tells the "extact date" when the champion batter came to his academy, West Delhi Cricket Academy. He also talked about what Kohli had that made his special from the other kids.

"He came with his father and elder brother; that was also the day of our academy, West Delhi Cricket Academy. I even remember the date, it was 30th April 1998. He was a guy who wanted to do everything. He wanted to bat, he wanted to bowl, he wanted to field; he wanted to be in the thick of things always. And for his age, he had tremendous power, which his boys didn't have. He used to hit the ball very hard at that age, and he used to throw the ball from the boundary line, which was different from others," Sharma said in a video posted by Star Sports.

The childhood coach also mentioned how difficult handling a notorious kid like Virat was. However, his determination towards the sport was always unparallel.

"He was very fond of batting. Once he went in the nets, he never wanted to come out. He wanted to bat for longer hours. When I used to ask him to come out, he used to say, 'Please sir, let me play two more rounds.' He used to get a lot of scolding because he was very naughty since the beginning. But he was a good learner, and he was very, very serious about cricket. We could make out that this guy could make it big."

Kohli, who played a useful hand during the 2024 T20 World Cup final, will be seen in action during the ODI leg of the Sri Lanka tour, starting on July 27.
