'Win World Cup For Virat' - Virender Sehwag Draws Comparison Between Sachin Tendulkar And His Successor

Former swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag wants the Indian team to win the upcoming World Cup for the legendary Virat Kohli, exactly what the 2011 squad did for Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

India won the 2011 World Cup on home soil, and each and every member of that squad, including a young Kohli, dedicated the feat to the 'God of Cricket'. 12 years on, the World Cup returns to India, and with Kohli approaching the final stage of his career, Sehwag wants the players to win the quadrennial event for the run-machine.

Kohli played a crucial role in India's 2011 WC win as his calm 35 (off 49) in the final helped the home side recover from early blows in the form of Sehwag and Sachin.

Kohli led India in the last World Cup, and while the Men in Blue topped the league-stage, they came short against their bogey side, New Zealand, in the semi-final.

With this possibly set to be the Chase Master's last 50-over World Cup, Sehwag is confident that King Kohli will once again light up the jam-packed stadiums later this year.

"We played that World Cup for Tendulkar. If we won the World Cup, it would have been a great exit for Sachin paaji. Virat Kohli is the same now. Everybody will look to win the World Cup for him. He always gives more than 100 percent," Sehwag told Star Sports.

"I think Virat Kohli is also looking to this World Cup. 100,000 people will watch you at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat knows how the pitches will behave. I am sure he will score a lot of runs and he will do his best to win the World Cup for India," he added.

India will open their World Cup campaign against former champions, Australia, in Chennai on October 08.
