Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans got a bit of a shock when their explosive opener Phil Salt was missing from the playing XI in the game against Delhi Capitals. Just when Salt was firing on all cylinders and giving RCB the perfect starts, he was suddenly ruled out with a fever.

Padikkal Opens Up On Phil Salt’s Availability For Crucial CSK Game

His absence was confirmed at the toss by skipper Rajat Patidar. In his place, youngster Jacob Bethell was handed a debut, who scored 12 off 6 balls.

Now with the blockbuster clash against Chennai Super Kings around the corner, the big question everyone’s asking is: Will Salt be fit in time?

Devdutt Padikkal didn’t exactly spill all the beans but he did give a hint. When asked about Salt’s availability for the CSK game at the Chinnaswamy on Friday, Padikkal said:

“To be honest, he's been in touch with the medical team. I'm not really privy to what has gone on in terms of the conversations, but hopefully he'll be back soon.”

So basically, no concrete update yet but it does sound like there is still a chance.

RCB Can’t Afford To Miss Salt For Long

Phil Salt has been the firestarter for RCB this season. His aggression in the powerplay has taken pressure off his partner Virat Kohli and the middle order and without him, the team looked a bit off-balance.

Bethell’s debut was decent, but Salt brings a different kind of X-factor as he doesn’t just start strong, he can take the game away in a flash. With playoffs looming, RCB would hate to miss out on his services, especially against a side like CSK even if they have been struggling this season.

RCB’s Playoff Road Still Tricky

Even though RCB are sitting on 14 points after 10 games, the playoff race is tighter than ever. It’s one of those seasons where even 16 points might not be enough and 18 could still leave a team biting their nails. So for RCB to breathe easy, they need to push for 20. That means winning all or most of their remaining four games.

The silver lining? Two of those matches are against CSK and SRH, both of whom have had forgettable campaigns. The challenge? Three of those games are at home and RCB have had a shocking home record, just one win from four games at the Chinnaswamy. Ironically, they have been road warriors as they have won all six away matches this season.
