After the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan match at the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 was cancelled, there were questions about whether Pakistan would continue in the tournament. But now, the owner of the Pakistan Champions team, Kamil Khan, has confirmed that Pakistan will stay in the tournament and everything will go ahead as planned.
WCL 2025 Still On Track Despite IND vs PAK Match Cancellation
The India vs Pakistan match, which was scheduled to be played on July 20, 2025, in Birmingham, was cancelled after Indian players refused to take part due to rising political tensions and public backlash following the Pahalgam terror attack. Many fans and sponsors in India were upset about the idea of their players competing against Pakistan, leading to the game's cancellation.
Despite this setback, Kamil Khan made it clear that the tournament would continue without any changes to the schedule. He told Geo News, as quoted by Hindustan Times, that all remaining matches would go on as planned and there would be no disruption to the tournament's progress.
"All the remaining matches are taking place. The tournament is going on as per schedule, and there are no changes. As for the semifinals and final, we're currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams, and we will avoid matches between the two teams," he said.
This means that if both teams reach that stage, the organisers may try to place them on opposite sides of the draw.
Since India pulled out of the group-stage match, Kamil Khan confirmed that Pakistan would be awarded 2 points as per the tournament rules.
"And as for this match, the two points will be awarded to us, and we deserve those points as per the rules,” he said.
‘If We Reach Final…’: Decision On India-Pakistan Final Later
Khan also said that if Pakistan and India both make it to the final, a decision on whether they will face each other will be taken closer to that time.
“If we reach the final, then the decisions regarding that will be made then," he said.
In short, while India vs Pakistan matches are uncertain due to political tensions, the Pakistan team will stay in WCL 2025, and semi-final clashes with India will be avoided if needed. The tournament continues as planned, with Pakistan still competing for the title.
Meanwhile, Indian Champions will play their first match against South Africa Champions on July 22, while Pakistan Champions will face South Africa in their second match on July 25.
