As rumoured earlier, Avesh Khan is all set to join Rajasthan Royals in a straight swap trade deal with Lucknow Super Giants, who are getting the services of Devdutt Padikkal in return. The BCCI is about to formally seal the agreement that the two teams reached last week, as confirmed by ESPNCricinfo on Wednesday.

Avesh was purchased by the Super Giants for INR 10 crore at the 2022 mega auction. The right-arm quick is currently a member of the Indian team for the T20I series against Australia, which begins on Thursday. Padikkal, however, cost the Royals INR 7.75 crore.

This will be Avesh’s third IPL franchise, having made his name for himself in Delhi Capitals before switching to Lucknow Super Giants. Similarly, the Super Giants will be Padikkal’s third franchise in the competition, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and then for Rajasthan Royals (RR).

"Avesh Khan has been traded to Rajasthan Royals (RR) from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) while Devdutt Padikkal is traded to LSG from RR during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) trading window ahead of the TATA IPL 2024," an IPL statement read, confirming the news.

Following the Super Giants' trade of Romario Shepherd to the Mumbai Indians earlier this month, this will only be the second trade made ahead of the 2024 season.

The IPL governing committee has set a deadline of November 26 for teams to trade or retain players.

Meanwhile, the mini auction for the upcoming season will take place in Dubai on December 19.
