Kapil Dev has criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for coming up with a hectic World Cup 2023 schedule for Team India. The ‘Men in Blue’, under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, are slated to play their nine league fixtures across nine different venues in the tournament.

While the entire schedule was unveiled back in July itself, BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently revealed that they will be announcing some changes to the itinerary in the coming days.

Kapil Dev questions Team India’s travelling schedule

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev highlighted the amount of travelling the current team will be required to do during the league stages of the upcoming 2023 event. The 1983 World Cup winner expressed his frustrations over the hectic itinerary, and urged the board to make some improvements over the same.

During an interview with The Week, he said:

“India is playing 11 matches and the amount of travelling they have to do…Who made that fixture? You are going to Dharmashala, then to Bengaluru, to Kolkata… playing in nine different places.”

The Indian team, as of now, is slated to play its tournament opener against five-time champions Australia on October 8 in Chennai. Their much-awaited clash against Pakistan will be played out at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, however, one can expect a possible change in venue for the blockbuster game.

Team India will play their final league fixture in Bengaluru against new entrants Netherlands on November 11. As part of preparations for the ODI spectacle, the team will travel to Sri Lanka for the much-awaited ODI Asia Cup in early September.
