Babar Azam, one of the finest batters of this generation, drove Colombo Strikers to victory over B-Love Kandy with a suave knock at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium. Opening the innings with his skipper Niroshan Dickwella, the cricketer unleashed 59 crafty runs glittered with four elegant boundaries and a six.

The innings turned out to be a match-winning one for his side as B-Love Kandy fell 27 runs short of their 158-run target in the run-chase.

Even though Babar Azam was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts, several fans are trolling him for upholding his lower T20 career strike rate in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 season.

Apart from being an international batting icon for Pakistan, Babar Azam also plies his trade as a T20 freelancer across global leagues. The cricketer, currently in Sri Lanka for LPL 2023, seems to have carried his fine-tune to engineer match-winning efforts for Colombo Strikers.

While he was dismissed for just seven in his side’s defeat in their opening game of the season, the 28-year-old made amends with a heroic 59 in his next outing. However, the opening batter used up 52 deliveries in doing so, inciting his fans to raise up questions over his strike-rate yet again.

Having minted over 9,000 runs in all T20 cricket, the Pakistani veteran has maintained a career strike-rate of just a little above 128, which is significantly lower than many other batters who have crossed the 9,000-run mark in T20s.

After Babar Azam’s latest series of efforts in LPL 2023, here is a look at some of the fan’s reacting to his lower strike-rate:

Azam will now take field for his side in their subsequent LPL 2023 league fixture against Dambulla Aura. The match, scheduled to be played on August 5, will also be hosted by Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele.
