In a blatant take, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said MS Dhoni’s job this Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is to entertain the fans as no one cares if Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wins or loses. His comments referred to Dhoni’s 26 runs cameo in CSK’s 35 runs loss against GT.

MS Dhoni, CSK’s legendary former captain and absolute fan favourite, is possibly playing his last IPL season. However, despite that, he continues to restrict himself by dropping down the batting order.

His choice of batting position this year has attracted much criticism after CSK lost a couple of games in the playoff race.

In a latest failure, MS Dhoni’s 26 runs cameo failed to propel CSK to a win against GT in mammoth 232 runs chase.

However, Sehwag opined that Dhoni wasn’t at fault as his teammates didn’t support him. Moreover, Sehwag dismissed debate over Dhoni’s questionable batting position as he feels its the veteran’s choice and that the fans must respect it.

“We should end the debate around MS Dhoni's batting position. He knows what he wants to do. It's his wish. But if you want to win the match, the form he is in, and the strike rate that he's batting at... the other batters need to play at a similar level,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Further, Sehwag dropped a bold take, saying that MS Dhoni wooed the fans with his blazing cameo against GT, and that’s all that matters. Sehwag feels all fans care about is Dhoni’s performance and not CSK’s results.

“I don't want to get into the debate. Wherever he bat, it's fine. He played fine, entertained the public, who cares if they win or lose? He entertained public, that's it,” he added.

Notably, MS Dhoni is not believed to be completely fit this IPL 2024 season as back and knee issues continue to resurface for the former captain.
