On Sunday, November 3, New Zealand scripted history as they became the second team in cricket's history to whitewash India at home. Notably, New Zealand beat the hosts by 25 runs to win the series 3-0.

The Rohit Sharma-led side failed to chase 147 runs and tumbled for just 121 runs in the second innings. Talking about the match, the game was evenly poised after day 1 as New Zealand put 235 runs on the board, while India took a 28-run lead after their first innings.

Rishabh Pant Involved In Controversial Dismissal

A great bowling display from Indian bowlers restricted the Kiwis to just 174 runs. While chasing 147, the batters fell like dominos, and the only exception was Rishabh Pant.

The southpaw looked in solid touch as he amassed 64 (57), which featured nine fours and a solitary six. However, he was involved in a controversial dismissal and returned to the pavilion visibly upset.

On the 4th ball of the 22nd over, Pant, in an attempt to defend the ball, edged it, and Tom Blundell took the catch. The umpire gave it not out, but the decision was overturned as Kiwis took a review, and the third umpire saw a spike on the sneak-o-meter.

AB De Villiers Call For An Upgrade In Technology

Pant was unhappy as he said that the spike was off his bat hitting the pad, but the decision was made, and his dismissal changed the course of the match. In the latest events, South Africa legend Ab de Villiers reacted to the dismissal and called for an upgrade in technology.

"Controversy! Little grey area once again. Did Pant get a bat on that or not? The problem is when the ball passes the bat at exactly the same time a batter hits his pad snicko will pick up the noise. But how sure are we he hit it? I’ve always worried about this and here it happens at a huge moment in a big Test match. Where’s hotspot?," tweeted De Villiers.

"The fact is there must’ve been doubt. Surely you stay with the on-field call then? Unless the 3rd Ump clearly saw a deviation? I’m not so sure. And don’t get me wrong, I have no bias here, just pushing for consistent calls and good use of tech," he added.

It is worth noting that India have suffered a massive dent on their WTC final qualification and will have to win majority of the matches against Australia in the upcoming five-match Test series.
