The three-Test matches between India and New Zealand have been tough to swallow for the home-team with unlucky dismissals being at the centrefold. On Day 3 of the final Test between the two at the Wankhede Stadium, Ajaz Patel once again caused troubles as Rishabh Pant was forced to walk back.
The Indian wicket-keeper batter looked in good touch as he slammed 64 runs off 57 balls in the crucial game before being dismissed right after lunch. However, this wicket has to be one of the most controversial dismissals ever as right till the end Rishabh Pant tried his best to convince the umpire that the ball hit the pad before the bat.
India Lose Pant
To rewind this fiasco a little, in the 22nd over, Ajaz Patel bowled a good length delivery outside off, turning back into Pant, who danced down the track to block it. However, he failed to get to the pitch of the ball but somehow managed to play outside the line by bringing his bat and pad closer. Tom Blundell moved across and gobbled it up with no hesitation.
While the umpire made the NOT OUT, the Kiwis convinced their skipper to go for a review in the dying seconds of the timer. As the replays showed, the ball, pad and the bat were all close together, and the UltraEdge had a spike. While Pant strongly believed that it was the front pad and not the ball, TV umpire Paul Reiffel thought otherwise, as, according to him, the ball brushed the inside edge before lobbing up off the front pad.
Ajaz Patel Completes Another 10 Wicket Haul At Wankhede
Heartbroken Pant took a long walk back to the pavilion and looked absolutely disappointed as he was previously also given out in a controversial close call in the Test match. With this, New Zealand spinner, Ajaz Patel, who last time picked 10-wickets at Wankhede, completed his five-wicket haul at the ground. Moreover, matching his record from last time, he has taken two fifers in this match and completed a ten-wicket haul as well.
Meanwhile, New Zealand has scripted history by white washing India in a 3-match Test series at their own backyard after 24 long years by defeating them by 25 runs.
