Sometimes, the biggest efforts turn into the biggest heartbreak, and India Women’s last defeat against the Australian Women is a prime example of that. Even after putting a record-breaking 330 runs on the board, they failed to defend it.
After the last defeat, Team India’s bowling came under scrutiny. Reflecting on the issue after the match, Team India’s coach Amol Mazumdar hinted at the possible addition of a sixth bowler ahead of their next clash, signaling a potential shake-up in the lineup.
Potential shake-up looms in India’s bowling attack
After a hard defeat against the South Africa Women, Team India eyed a strong bounce back against the Australia Women, but the scenario turned out to be different. Even after putting a massive total on the board, the bowling performance took the match away from them. Even Amonjot Kaur, Nallapureddy Charani, and Deepti Sharma secured crucial scalps, but it was too late.
Kranti Gaud and Sneh Rana proved to be extremely expensive as Australia Women took away the game. Reflecting on the bowling performance, India Women’s head coach Amol Mazumdar hinted at a possible shake-up in team India’s bowling strategy in the upcoming games.
“Obviously, after this game we'll have a look at it and I'm sure the team management will have a proper discussion about this and then we'll take a right call as we approach the next game. I'm sure about it,” Mazumdar said.
Batting effort earns heartfelt praises
Even though the bowling performance turned the match into an unforgettable one, the batting performance deserved to be cherished. Starting with Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana’s outstanding opening partnership, Team India got a great start. The collective effort of the batters propelled the team to a formidable total of 330 runs, earning them glowing praise from the head coach.
“Of course, we would have liked to have another. You can always say in hindsight that if we had another 20 runs, it would be better, but that is not how you look at it. I think there are a lot of takeaways from out batting display today. 330, I guess, was a very challenging score,” he added.
After back-to-back defeats, India Women are feeling the heat. As they gear up to face England Women in their next clash, the team will be eager to bounce back and claim a crucial victory.
