Captain Suryakumar Yadav dedicated India’s victory against Pakistan to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian armed forces for their selfless service to the nation.
India bulldozed Pakistan in match 6 of the Asia Cup 2025 by securing a comfortable 7-wicket victory. In the first inning, the men in green, who in fact chose to bat first, succumbed to 127/9 after Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel scalped 5 wickets combined.
In the chase, captain Suryakumar hammered 47* off 37 balls as India chased down the total in just 15.5 overs with the help of crucial contributions of 31 runs each from Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma.
Suryakumar Yadav Expresses Solidarity With Pahalgam Victims
Meanwhile, in the post-match press conference, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav took a firm stand on behalf of his team. He expressed solidarity with the Pahalgam terrorist attack victims and dedicated the victory to the Indian armed forces.
Yadav insisted that his team’s only motive was to bring smiles to the faces of our brave soldiers who protect the nation selflessly.
"I just wanted to say something. I think it is a perfect occasion to take the time out. We stand by with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and we express our solidarity. Most important thing for me, we want to dedicate this win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all and we give them more reasons on the ground when we get an opportunity to make them smile."
Coming back to the game, SKY reflected on the build-up of the India-Pakistan clash and admitted that pressure is always present before big contests. However, he insisted that the team’s mindset remain the same regardless of the opponent.
"I feel, it is a great feeling and it is a perfect return gift to India. (On preparations) No, it actually keeps running in your mind. It is a human tendency when you are coming here, playing a game like this. You want to win it, you have to have something ready. See, for me and for my boys and for the whole team, we think it is just another game. We prepare the same for all the oppositions and that's how we go about it."
On India’s spin-heavy strategy, he credited his bowlers for executing brilliantly. Kuldeep Yadav picked 3 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs, while Axar Patel contributed with 2 wickets.
"(On finishing the game with a six) Yeah, I mean, this is one box I always wanted to tick. Stay out there and it is the need of the hour today. I loved to stay not out till the end. (On using four spinners to choke the opposition) I mean, that's what happened. Few months back, our Champions Trophy team who win the title, they set the tone. I am always a fan of spinners, they control the game in the middle and post powerplay, all the spinners were amazing."
Interestingly, Pakistan captain Salman Agha was missing from the post-match presentation ceremony for unknown reasons. That being said, with this victory, India moves to the top of the Group A table with 4 points and a +4.793 NRR in 2 games.
