Pakistan had a forgettable day on the field as arch-rivals India crushed them by seven wickets in a one-sided contest at Dubai International Stadium. Batting first, Pakistan could post only 127 runs on the board, while India clinched an easy win by chasing the score in 15.5 overs.

How Can Pakistan Enter Next Round In Asia Cup?

Pakistan are placed in Group-A and have already played against Oman and India. They have their last game coming up against the United Arab Emirates, a team that has yet to play against Oman.

So, given that India have already won two successive matches, Pakistan's future in the Asia Cup will be decided by these two matches.

  • If the UAE defeat Oman in their next game on Monday, Pakistan must win their final group-stage match against the former on September 17.
  • On the other hand, if the UAE lose against Oman but win their final match against Pakistan, the Men in Green must hope for India to beat Oman (which is a definite possibility) while trying to finish the group-stage with a better Net Run Rate than their competitors.
  • Fortunately for Pakistan, the Agha Salman-led outfit's NRR reads a reasonable +1.649. Having said that, they must secure a victory in their last group-stage contest to secure a berth in the Super Four.

Meanwhile, talking about India, the Men in Blue have almost confirmed their entry into the next round following an emphatic victory over their arch-rivals.

While Kuldeep Yadav bagged his second successive three-wicket haul, valuable contributions from Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav ensured India didn't lose the plot despite Saim Ayub's clinical spell. Having secured two consecutive wins, India will face Oman in their final group-stage game on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
