While the Indian team has shined with an unbeaten run to the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, questions have been raised about the form of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

However, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has stepped forward to staunchly defend Jadeja by highlighting his immense value beyond mere statistics.

Ravindra Jadeja, known for his all-round capabilities, has struggled to leave his mark. With the ball, his left-arm spin has resulted in just one wicket from 10 overs, and with the bat, he's managed a dismal 16 runs from three innings.

Yet, Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted an aspect often overlooked—the unmatched fielding brilliance of Jadeja. Gavaskar, speaking on Star Sports, dismissed any doubts about Jadeja’s form, praising his invaluable fielding skills.

“I am not at all concerned as he is very experienced. For whatever opportunities he’s got, he’s done well. And don’t forget, in the field itself, he saved 20 to 30 runs with his fielding ability, taking catches, and getting the run out. So don’t forget those 20-30 plus runs. Then he enters the field, with anything that he does with the bat and ball is an added value to his ability. So I don’t think we should even think about questioning (Jadeja),” said Gavaskar.

Despite his modest figures, Jadeja's contributions are like a glue that holds the team together. His sharp reflexes and agility have turned many potential boundaries into mere singles and his fielding is equivalent to a silent guardian on the field.

As India gears up to face England in the second semi-final on Thursday, June 27, in Guyana, the focus will undoubtedly be on their star players. Yet, it's the unquantifiable impact of players like Jadeja that often turns out to be the game-changer.
