Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan lamented the costly mistake of letting Virat Kohli off the hook early in the game, which ultimately led to their four-wicket loss against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 25, Monday.

Defending a target of 177, Punjab Kings missed a golden opportunity early on when Virat Kohli was dropped by Jonny Bairstow on the second ball of the innings bowled by Sam Curran.

Kohli, batting on zero at the time, edged a wide delivery towards slip, but Bairstow failed to hold onto the catch. It proved to be a turning point as Kohli capitalised on the reprieve, scoring 77 runs to steer his team to victory.

Reflecting on the match, Dhawan said,"(Turning point) Virat scored 70-odd runs and we dropped a catch of the class player, we paid the price. If we had taken that catch .... we lost the momentum and then we paid the price for that."

"The match went till the last over, at the end also we could have bowled well. He's bowling really well, especially bowling against left-handers, tremendous the way he soaked in the pressure and got us the breakthroughs."

Despite Faf du Plessis and Cameron Green getting out early, Kohli maintained his attacking stance throughout the powerplay, aided by Rajat Patidar. However, Patidar's dismissal, followed by Glenn Maxwell's, put pressure on them.

Kohli, on the other hand, continued to attack Punjab bowlers before being dismissed on 77. Anuj Rawat's wicket added to the pressure, but Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik's aggressive play eased it

Eventually, Karthik secured victory with four balls to spare. Earlier, Punjab scored 176 runs, with skipper Shikhar Dhawan top-scoring (45). Contributions from Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Jitesh Sharma, Shashank Singh's late blitz took them to over 170 runs.
