Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pummeled Gujarat Titans (GT) by a whopping 63 runs on Tuesday, March 26th at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, to register their second consecutive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Gujarat won the toss and invited Chennai Super Kings to bat first. However, the decision backfired as the Titans conceded way too many runs to Chennai Super Kings, who ended up with 206 runs for the loss of six wickets on the board.

CSK got off to a blazing start with both their openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, smashing 46 runs apiece. Afterward, Shivam Dube lit up the field with a blistering 51 off just 23 balls, joined by the newcomer Sameer Rizvi who chipped in with 14 runs from six balls.

However, the Gujarat Titans couldn't get their rhythm going throughout the game, scraping together just 143 runs in their 20 overs, losing eight wickets in the process. During the post match conference, Shubman Gill acknowledged that their batting let them down.

“We backed ourselves to get a decent score in the powerplay and once we didn’t, we were always playing catch-up. It was unfortunate for us. In T20 you can always talk about 10-15 runs here or there, end of the day it’s about how much they got. We always expected to chase 190-200, it was a really good wicket. Felt like we let ourselves down while batting.”

Shubman Gill also acknowledged that it's a valuable learning experience for their bowlers, who conceded too many runs, and he noted the importance of having a bad game early in the tournament rather than later.

“I think it's great learning for the bowlers. I think it’s better to have this kind of game early on in the tournament rather than in the middle or late.”

Gujarat Titans will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 31.
