'We Haven't Played Enough...': Hardik Pandya Reflects On Poor IPL 2024 Season

In a rain-affected match at the Eden Garden, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) played a 16-over game where the hosts comfortably defeated MI by 18 runs, making it their 9th win of the season resulting in their official qualification to the playoffs.

After winning the toss, MI put KKR to bat first, and the bowlers started off well, dismissing 3/40 in four overs. However, thanks to the cameos from the lower-middle order, they managed to recover and post a total of 157/7.

While chasing, Mumbai openers had completely opposite starts, Ishan Kishan tried well for his 22-ball-40 but Rohit Sharma struggled to get going and scored 19 (24). Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir provided some late flurry as they added 32 (17 and 17 (6) but MI eventually fell short by 18 runs.

Reflecting on the game, Hardik Pandya admitted to not being able to build on the start that they had got in the powerplay.

"Tough one. As a batting unit, the foundation was there but we could not capitalise and that cost us. The wicket was tacky, so momentum was important but after that we couldn't capitalise."

Pandya credited bowlers for restricting them to a chase-able total given the wet conditions on the field.

"Their score was par. Given the conditions, I thought the bowlers did well. When the balls returned from the boundary, it hit the cover and was wet. They did well. It seemed par but was a winning total."

Hardik expressed disappointment for how their season has gone in these 13 games, saying that they didn't play good cricket, sending a message to the boys to just enjoy the last game.

"Just want to go and enjoy, play good cricket. That's been the motto from the start but we haven't played enough good cricket."

MI play their final encounter of the season against Lucknow Super Giants on May 17.
