The cricket world has seen several duos on and off the field but ‘Mahirat’ is different. From conquering in 22 yards to conquering fans’ hearts, the duo created magic on and off the field. From Virat’s debut in Dhoni’s captaincy to Dhoni’s last match in leadership, the duo crossed a long way.

Despite all the speculation over the equation between both these greats, fans always witnessed a strong between them. As both sides are set to face each other on the big stage, Captain Cool reflects on his bond with Kohli.

Dhoni Reflects On His Relationship With Virat

The cricket world celebrates the brotherhood between Dhoni and Kohli. In 2008, Virat made his debut under Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the duo continued playing together for 11 years. Since the early age of Kohli’s career, Dhoni played a crucial role and later on, passed on the captaincy baton to him. Also, Virat Kohli never failed to showcase his admiration for his captain.

Not just in international cricket, but in IPL, both players have always seen sharing some heartwarming moments on and off the field. Ahead of the big clash, Captain Cool reflected on his special bond with Virat Kohli.

“Between me and Virat, right from the start, he was someone who wanted to contribute. He was never happy with a 40 or a 60; he wanted to score a 100 and be not out till the end. So, that hunger was there right from the start.” he said.

The way he improved his batting and his will to perform are what kept him going. He raised his fitness levels and was always there on the field. So he was always like that. He would come and talk, 'What I could have done now? I could have done this’,” he added.

Junior-Senior Equation But Still Friends

As they spent a long period of time playing together, there is a strong up built up with time. What started as a senior-junior dynamic has blossomed into a close friendship. Kohli has always valued Dhoni’s advice, often relying on his wisdom during matches. As both are not captaining their respective sides, MSD thinks they can catch up with each other more frequently.

“We had a lot of conversations, and that opened us up. Again, I gave him an honest opinion. Things like 'You could have done this, delayed it by an over'. Or 'this was a risk that you had to take'. Just putting in the point, and that's how the relationship grew. It was more like a captain and a newcomer at that point in time, but once you keep interacting, you become friends.” he said

But I still feel we have that line in the middle – about the senior and a junior – although still friends. We have that companionship now that both of are not captains. Which means that we can have more time between us before the toss.” he added.

As the Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru encounter adds more thrill in IPL, fans are on their way to experiencing another chapter of this rivalry. On March 28, both sides are set to lock horns at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
