Pakistan managed to get their first victory in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against Sri Lanka, keeping their hopes alive in the tournament. With this win, they hope to beat Bangladesh in the next match and qualify for the finals.
Their previous match against Sri Lanka wasn't an easy victory. While chasing 134 runs, they lost a few wickets in the middle overs. However, Hussain Talat (32*) and Mohammad Nawaz's (38*) brilliant partnership saved the match for the Men in Green.
Hussain Talat on middle-order role in Asia Cup 2025
Pakistan's middle-order batter Hussain Talat anchored the innings well, rotating the strike and picking up the bad deliveries to hit the boundaries. This helped his team snatch victory, which was extremely important. While talking about batting in the middle order, he mentioned that it's a huge responsibility and failures lead to frequent criticism.
"We keep saying that if we need a middle-order player, they need to know how to be both aggressive and have the ability to anchor. But the chances of failure with that kind of cricket are high. Unfortunately, if you don't perform a few games or series, the media and fans immediately go after you, and you're out of the team suddenly," said Hussain Talat at the press conference after the game.
Talat pointed out that middle order is the 'hardest' and fewer players in Pakistan have mastered the art of batting at that position. The batter scored 32 off 30 balls, and he was awarded the Player of the Match trophy for a responsible innings.
"I think the middle order is the hardest place to play in T20 cricket because you're required to play all kinds of cricket. And because it's difficult, I think you should have more chances in that position. And players who can play in the middle order are very rare in Pakistan, perhaps four or five. And even they don't want to play there," he added.
Hussain Talat aims to win Asia Cup 2025
After losing the first match against India, Pakistan's victory against Sri Lanka was a lifeline for them. However, this win has instilled a level of confidence in the players. Hussain Talat sounded confident when he said Pakistan could win the trophy since they were just two games away.
"We're two games away from the trophy, and we believe we can win it," said Talat.
The equation for the upcoming matches is such that if India beat Bangladesh, they'll qualify for the finals. However, the Pakistan vs Bangladesh match will become a virtual semi-final of the tournament. The winner of the game will meet India in the finals, making the tournament enjoyable.
