Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hit back at critics, especially former Indian powerhouse Virender Sehwag, with a match-winning performance against the Netherlands that left the crowd buzzing.

Amid a storm of criticism over his recent form, Shakib didn't just walk the talk; he let his bat do the talking, smashing a defiant 64* off 46 balls against the Dutch, guiding Bangladesh closer to the coveted Super 8s.

Shakib shut down Sehwag with savage comeback after retirement jab

Sehwag had earlier launched a scathing attack on Shakib's credentials, suggesting that the Bangladeshi star had overstayed his welcome in the T20 team.

Labelling Shakib's recent performances as shameful, Sehwag had minced no words on Cricbuzz, arguing that Shakib should hang up his boots and step aside.

However, with his back against the wall, Shakib responded where it counts. In a post-match video that has since gone viral, when quizzed about Virender Sehwag's harsh comments, Shakib's reply was nothing short of theatrical.

Dismissing the former Indian opener with a disdainful "Who?", Shakib's one-word reply has become the talk of the town and set social media ablaze.

Meanwhile, post-match, Shakib Al Hasan took a high road, stating that a player's duty is to contribute to his team's efforts across the board, not to engage in verbal tiffs.

He articulated that his role, whether with the bat, ball, or in the field, is to contribute robustly to the team's cause.

As Bangladesh gears up to face Nepal on Monday, with a spot in the Super 8s on the line, all eyes will be on Shakib to see if he can continue his form and maybe, just maybe, send a few more of his critics packing.
