Ravi Shastri's extravagant and high-spirited commentary style remains a fan favourite in cricket as the former India allrounder and head coach continues to hold a special place in the hearts of cricket lovers and even players whose feats he has enriched with his words over the years.

After a five-year hiatus from the commentary box at the height of his India coaching tenure from 2017-2021, Shastri returned to the commentary box following the conclusion of the 2021 T20 World Cup and has since detransitioned into his role ever so smoothly.

He was part of the esteemed list of commentators on job for the marquee ICC World Cup 2023 in India and on Monday (December 11) made his Big Bash League (BBL) debut behind the mic in Australia, giving his voice to the Hobart Hurricanes versus Sydney Sixers face-off in Tasmania.

But before Shastri could start off his new stint on Fox Sports, he was given a special welcome to the commentary box by former Australia captain and his colleague Aaron Finch, who called the ex India allrounder "the king of commentary".

As Shastri thanked fellow commentator Mark Howard for his glowing praise in his introduction, Finch took over and underlined the man's legendary status behind the mic with his unfazed and aggressive style that connects deeply with the fans.

"He is the King of commentary and has been the voice of cricket for a long time. It is good to have him over here," Finch said.

Shastri recently signed up with leading Australian broadcaster Fox Sports to do commentary at the 2023-24 edition of the country's premier domestic T20 competition Down Under.
