The iconic Perth Stadium in Western Australia plays host to the opening fixture of the three-match Test series between hosts Australia and Pakistan from Thursday (December 14).

As the Asian giants strive to rewrite the history books Down Under, they confront the mighty Aussies, who have clinched victories in their past 14 straight Tests against them over five separate series whitewashes since Pakistan's 1999-2000 trip.

The hosts enter the familial turf in Perth, renowned for its extreme pace and bounce, to try and ruffle the spirited hosts early in the contest and draw first blood before the series moves to the Boxing Day and New Year's Tests at the MCG and SCG, respectively.

Perth Stadium Pitch Report

The pitch at the iconic Perth Stadium is known for its steep bounce and consistent pace. The track offered a greenish outlook on Tuesday (December 12) with an extra blade of grass expected to be left for the Aussies to enjoy the home advantage.

Historically Perth has been a fast-bowlers' paradise but since runs are at an absolute premium at the venue, the pacers also carry the pressure to find their lengths quickly. They can't afford to sway with their emotions and give away runs in the process of searching for wickets.

If the surface plays true to its tradition, it should also bring the spinners into play in the second half due to the scorching Perth heat and baking the track undergoes beneath the sun, which leads to cracks at either end.

Taller quicks in the Aussie camp should use their height and high-arm release to pretty good effect when the pitch plays unevenly at the fag end of the Test match.

Bat first and post runs on the board after winning the toss because it would only get tougher to score at this venue.
