[Watch] 'It Was Sad To See', Says Pat Cummins On ENG's WC Debacle With An 'Evil' Laugh

England slumped to their third successive defeat at the 2023 World Cup when an injury-ravaged Sri Lankan side comprehensively routed them in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the competition, the defending champions also coped with a shock defeat at the hands of Afghanistan and a 229-run pasting from South Africa, apart from losing out to 2019 runners-up New Zealand in the tournament opener.

In stark contrast, the Australian contingent has been on an ascendant trajectory throughout the 2023 World Cup.

After sustaining demoralising defeats to South Africa and tournament hosts India upfront, Pat Cummins and co. have ignited a remarkable insurgency by securing comfortable wins against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Netherlands in successive games.

A day prior to Australia's World Cup 2023 standoff with New Zealand, captain Cummins jokingly acknowledged that he felt "sad" upon witnessing the latest downfall of England, their Ashes rivals, against a struggling Sri Lankan unit.

An insurgent Australian unit will go up against New Zealand on October 28 in a bid to sustain their newfound winning momentum.

A day before the much-awaited antipodean faceoff, Australia captain Pat Cummins was asked to give his take on England's World Cup 2023 debacle, assuming he was "heartbroken" to see his Ashes rivals taking three successive beatings in the tournament.

While speaking with the reporters during a pre-match press conference, Cummins laughingly said:

“Obviously got them (England) to face in a couple of games time, so we’ll have a close look there. But yeah, it was sad to see.”
