Hardik Pandya is expected to resume light training this weekend ahead of India’s much-awaited World Cup 2023 stalemate against defending champions England. Earlier in the tournament, the star all-rounder coped with an injury on his left ankle while bowling against Bangladesh.

Pandya was instantly taken for scans and was subsequently ruled out of India’s high-profile standoff against New Zealand in Dharamsala. Currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru in a bid to attain full recovery, the Indian vice-captain is set to miss out on the team’s planned commitment against England as well.

Hardik Pandya to resume light training

As per Hardik Pandya’s latest recovery update, the cricketer is scheduled to commence light training this weekend at the NCA.

According to a report from Khel Now, a source close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the board is not rushing into his recovery and is allowing the cricketer to heal naturally instead. The source said:

“The BCCI also had an option to play Hardik Pandya in the fixtures with injections, but the board has decided to let the all-rounder heal naturally. Pandya is set to miss India’s next games.”

The BCCI’s judicious decision to prioritise the long-term fitness of Hardik Pandya over the immediate needs of the Indian team, which has already secured five consecutive wins en route to the semi-finals, reflects a commendable commitment to the player’s well-being and the team’s sustained success.

Under Rohit Sharma, Team India has handed out comprehensive drubbings to Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand in clinical run-chases as they remain the only unbeaten side of the tournament. The ‘Men in Blue’ will hope to sustain their winning run when they take on defending champions England on October 29 at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
