Quetta Gladiators' mentor, Sir Viv Richards, erupted with joy, dashing from the dugout to embrace Mohammad Wasim Jr. after the latter hammered Lahore Qalandars' Shaheen Shah Afridi for a six on the final ball of the match, securing victory in Karachi on Monday, March 11.

Shaheen had the task of defending 15 runs in the last over. Laurie Evans fell to the first delivery, but Quetta's opener, Saud Shakeel, stood firm, striking two boundaries in a row, narrowing the target to five runs off two balls.

After a single off the next ball, all eyes turned to Mohammad Wasim Jr. as Quetta needed four runs from the final delivery.

Many questioned the decision to take the run, considering Shakeel was set, and Wasim had to find the boundary off Shaheen's bowling. But somehow Wasim managed to pull the run-chase off.

In a moment of sheer exhilaration, Wasim launched a length delivery towards deep mid-wicket, sending it sailing over the ropes for a massive six, sparking celebrations in the packed National Stadium in Karachi.

In the euphoria of the moment, Sir Viv Richards couldn't contain his excitement, rushing onto the ground to revel in the winning moment with Wasim and Shakeel.

With this win, the Quetta Gladiators secured their place in the playoffs, becoming the first team to do so.

Earlier, Jason Roy provided the Gladiators with a blazing start to the chase, smashing Shaheen for three consecutive boundaries.

Khawaja Nafay and Saud Shakeel then formed a steady partnership, keeping the scoreboard ticking. They added 70 runs for the third wicket before Nafay departed in the 18th over after a frustrating innings of 26 off 24 deliveries.

Shakeel carried his bat through the innings, top-scoring for the Gladiators with a well-crafted 88, featuring five boundaries and four sixes.

Nevertheless, Richards has been associated with the Gladiators since 2016, and witnessing the West Indies legend's exuberance was a rare sight, reflecting the significance of the moment.
