Luke Jongwe's celebrations went viral [X]
On Saturday, India had a disastrous start to the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe as the hosts handed them a gut-wrenching 13-run defeat in a low-scoring thriller at Harare Sports Club.
While Tendai Chatara and skipper Sikandar Raza starred with the ball for the Chevrons, experienced all-rounder Luke Jongwe got the prized scalp of India's debutant keeper-batter, Dhruv Jurel.
After outfoxing Jurel, Jongwe grabbed the limelight with his unique 'shoe call' celebration.
Luke Jongwe reveals the reason behind his celebration
After the match concluded, Jongwe revealed the real reason behind his celebration. As quoted by The Standard, the medium pacer stated that he planned the celebration when he was on a call with his girlfriend before the match.
“I came up with the idea for the celebration while I was on a call with my girlfriend Brenda (Jasi). We were actually discussing a celebration I would do if I get a wicket the next day in my hotel room so I went with the shoe celebration," Jongwe said.
"I told her each time I get a wicket I would be calling you and I hope I won’t run out of airtime,” he added.
Meanwhile, having lost the first T20I by a narrow margin, Shubman Gill-led India will try to bounce back and restore parity in the second fixture of the series in Harare today.
