Cricketing icon MS Dhoni and Tamil megastar Thalapathy Vijay teamed up in the most surprising manner. Vijay's highly anticipated movie 'GOAT' hit the screens on September 5, 2024, and although the film itself was action-packed, it was the surprise entry of Dhoni that caused a storm in cinemas.

GOAT, produced by AGS Entertainment and directed by Venkat Prabhu, was among the largest Tamil releases in 2024. The movie was a double role action sci-fi thriller starring actor Vijay as both a hero and a villain.

However, an unexpected twist caught the fans in the theatres off guard as CSK legend MS Dhoni appeared on the screen. The scene depicted a clip from an IPL match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians which showed Dhoni coming down the stairs to bat.

Despite being shown only for a few seconds, the crowd response was electric, particularly in Chennai, where fans exploded with cheers the second their iconic “Thala” popped up on the big screen.

After all, MS Dhoni has been the face of CSK since the IPL began, and his bond with Chennai remains unmatched.

Rumours had been swirling for months that Dhoni might actually shoot a cameo for the film. However, director Venkat Prabhu clarified that Dhoni did not act in GOAT. 

Instead, real-life cricket footage was used to enhance the authenticity of the IPL sequences. Still, for fans, just a glimpse of MS Dhoni was enough to set social media buzzing. 

Thalapathy Vijay heads into politics

With the launch of his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, Thalapathy Vijay is preparing to contest in the Tamil Nadu elections in 2026. This means that GOAT could be Vijay’s second-to-last film before stepping fully into politics. That makes the movie not just another project but a milestone in his journey from cinema to public life.
