Pakistan captain Agha Salman has revealed that the Men in Green will back out-of-form batter Saim Ayub for the all-important Asia Cup final against India at Dubai International Stadium. The Pakistani skipper believes Saim can be a valuable asset for Pakistan, not only in this match but also in the years to come.
Agha Salman backs Saim Ayub despite poor form
Swashbuckling southpaw Saim Ayub has been far from his best in the Asia Cup 2025. In six innings, Ayub has managed only 23 runs at a horrendous average of 3.83. However, he has contributed with the ball, scalping eight wickets at a superb strike rate of twelve and an economy of 6.59.
Agha Salman believes a player of Saim Ayub's calibre should be backed as he has the potential to become one of Pakistan's generational greats. While speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Salman also stated that Saim deserves the management's backing for showcasing his attributes with the ball.
“I think Saim Ayub is such a player who can serve Pakistan for the next 10 years, and I am really hoping that he does. So, it is essential to back such individuals until a situation arises where it becomes absolutely necessary to make a change,” Agha said as quoted by Geo News.
"You have seen his bowling and fielding — he is contributing in every game. There has not been a single match where he has not contributed. Yes, he could not perform with the bat, but I am fully confident that he will play one good innings in the final," he added.
So, considering Agha Salman's stance, we reckon Saim Ayub won't likely be dropped and participate in the Asia Cup final despite struggling with poor batting form.
