Former India cricketer Amita Sharma has been named as the new chairperson of the Women’s national selection committee. The decision was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during a recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Sunday, September 28.

Amita Sharma will be replacing fellow former cricketer Neetu David for the high-profile role. It is worth noting that Amita played five Tests, 116 ODIs and 41 T20Is for Team India between the years 2002 and 2014.

Amita Sharma chosen to lead new women’s selection panel

As reported by Gaurav Gupta from the Times of India, former India women’s fast bowler Amita Sharma has been appointed as the new chief selector of the India Women cricket team. Shyama Dey, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma and Sravanthi Naidu are the other members who will be joining Amita in the new women’s selection committee.

Previously, ex-India spinner Neetu David served the India Women’s team as the chairperson of the national selection panel from September 2020 up until this year.

Nonetheless, Amita Sharma will be expected to assume command after the conclusion of the upcoming 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Aged 43, Amita previously played five Tests, 116 ODIs and 41 T20Is for Team India before confirming her retirement from international cricket. She picked up five wickets in Tests, another 87 in ODIs and 16 in T20Is to cap her career with 108 international scalps.

She also has a half-century in her all-format profiles, having aggregated 1,391 runs in her international career.
