Virat Kohli’s hunger for big tournaments is far from over, and his latest performance in domestic cricket is clear proof of that. The former India captain marked a memorable return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after more than 15 years with a match-winning century for Delhi.

The knock also strengthened the belief of his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma, who feels Virat Kohli is fully ready for the 2027 ODI World Cup, with the veteran continuing to show the drive, fitness and form needed for the global stage.

Kohli lights up Vijay Hazare Trophy return with commanding century

Playing his first Vijay Hazare match since 2010, Kohli rose to the occasion as Delhi chased down a formidable target of 299 against team Andhra at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Walking in to bat in the very first over, the senior batter looked in complete control from the word go and went on to score a superb 131 off just 101 balls. His innings, laced with 14 boundaries and three sixes, set the tone for a comfortable Delhi victory.

Childhood coach confident of Virat Kohli’s World Cup readiness

After stepping away from T20Is and Tests, Virat Kohli has now shifted his full attention to the ODI format. Speaking to ANI on Wednesday after the century against Andhra, Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma said the veteran is fully prepared for the 2027 World Cup.

"He is in brilliant form. He continued from where he left against South Africa and took Delhi to victory. He played domestic cricket after a long time, but still performed exceptionally well. He is the most consistent player in the Indian team and is fully ready for the World Cup," Sharma said.

The knock was special for several reasons, firstly as it was Kohli’s 58th List A century and his fifth in Delhi colors. Among Delhi batters, only Shikhar Dhawan has scored more centuries in 50-over cricket than Kohli.

During the innings, Virat Kohli also crossed a major milestone, becoming only the second Indian player to reach 16,000 List A runs. He achieved the feat in just 330 innings, joining an elite group of legendary cricketers in the 50-over format.
