The 2025-26 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to kick off from December 26 in Sylhet, but security concerns are looming over the tournament’s start. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is closely monitoring the situation across the country to ensure that the matches can be conducted safely.

BCB intensifies security measures as BPL 2025-26 approaches

BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul confirmed that the board is fully focused on managing the game on the field while keeping security under strict surveillance. Officials are coordinating with relevant law enforcement agencies and will take necessary measures based on ongoing assessments.

The league’s second phase is scheduled in Chattogram from January 5 to January 12, though no decision has been made yet to extend matches in the city instead of returning to Dhaka. Plans to return to Dhaka after the Chattogram phase remain unchanged for now.

The board is also set to discuss an updated organizational structure in a meeting on Wednesday. Following an external HR audit, BCB has revised its management structure and has also opened applications for several senior positions, which will be reviewed for approval in the meeting alongside BPL matters.

Concerns over internal management and allegations of corruption have emerged in recent months as well, but BCB maintains that these are personal opinions and will not affect the ongoing tournament preparations.

However, security concerns have already affected the opening of the league, causing delays and adjustments to match arrangements. With safety a top priority, the BCB is making sure that players, staff, and fans can participate without any risk as the excitement for the new BPL season increases.
