Indian film director SS Rajamouli has penned a heartfelt note for Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer and RCB zealot Virat Kohli ahead of the IPL 2025 final. Taking to X, the celebrated filmmaker praised Shreyas for guiding Punjab Kings to an exquisite run-chase against an experienced Mumbai Indians bowling line-up in the second qualifier.

Furthermore, while Rajamouli claimed that Shreyas deserves this year’s trophy, he added that Virat Kohli deserves one too for his years of dedication and for piling up thousands of runs season after season.

RRR director calls IPL trophy ‘final frontier’ for Kohli

A day after Punjab Kings’ emphatic win over Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier, RRR and Baahubali director SS Rajamouli took to X to praise Shreyas Iyer for his explosive knock of 87* from 41 balls. Rajamouli recalled Iyer’s past success with different franchises, adding that the cricketer deserves another trophy this time around.

Moreover, the Indian filmmaker also added that Virat Kohli deserves an IPL trophy for his dedication and loyalty towards RCB. Taking to X, he wrote:

“Iyer guiding Bumrah’s and Boult’s yorkers to the third man boundary… Exquisite… This man leads Delhi to a final… and is dropped… Leads Kolkata to a trophy… dropped… Leads a young Punjab to the finals after 11 years. He deserves this year’s trophy too… On the other hand, it is Kohli… who is performing year on year… compiling thousands of runs. The final frontier for him… He deserves it too. Whatever the result… it’s going to be a heartbreak…”

Shreyas Iyer fired Punjab Kings to their first IPL final in 11 years. Last week, RCB also marched into their first final since 2016 by blanking Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh.

With both teams eying their first IPL title, a win for either side will mark the first occasion in tournament history since 2013 to witness a new winner.

The blockbuster finale will be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
