Team India’s transition nears as they are set to face England in a five-match Test series. With that, Shubman Gill is poised to step up as Rohit’s successor, ready to lead the Indian squad into a new era.

Making his captaincy debut in English conditions won’t be easy for Gill, and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has offered some advice for the Indian Test skipper.

Ganguly’s Piece Of Advice For Gill

After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement, Team India is set to play the first-ever Test match under Shubman Gill’s captaincy. Facing English conditions won’t be a cakewalk for the 25-year-old player, as Ben Stokes and Co. are ready to throw challenges in their home condition.

Speaking to Revsportz, as quoted by Cricket.com, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly warned Gill about the unexpected challenges of the English conditions.

“These are not conditions where you just hit through the line. It's going to seam, swing, the new ball will be different. There can be a time when India is 10 for 2, and he has to come and play the new ball, so the application will be different,” he said.

Ganguly Spills The Secret To Boost Gill’s Test Game

Ever since Shubman Gill stepped into Rohit Sharma’s shoes, his Test average has remained a major talking point. Though he scored 1893 runs in 32 Tests, his average on English soil is far from impressive. He played 3 matches in England and scored only 88 runs with an average of 14.66.

As Gill takes on the role of India’s skipper, Sourav Ganguly feels he must score more runs, tighten his defence, and focus on the art of leaving deliveries smartly.

“Shubman needs to score a bit more runs in these conditions when it's seaming and swinging. It is going to be a bit difficult upfront with the new ball. Batting at 100 for 2 and 20 for 4 are two different things, so he has to get the defence right, learn how to leave deliveries outside the off stump,” he said.

“Wishing him all the best. I am sure he can work on his Test match batting. He is a top-order batsman,” Ganguly said while backing Gill.

As the first Test is set to be on stage on June 20, Team India is playing an intra-squad match, and captain Gill crafted a thrilling half-century. Ahead of the series, Gill's form has become a big boost for the side.
