Former India head coach WV Raman anticipates an exciting strategy from the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming WPL 2024 auction, scheduled for December 9. Reflecting on the success of the last auction, where the team secured the talent of Saika Ishaque, Raman emphasized the potential of unearthing more uncut and unpolished diamonds for the squad. Ishaque, who was a pivotal asset in the previous season, has now earned a spot in the ongoing series against England with an impressive 15-wicket haul in 10 matches.

Raman predicts that Mumbai Indians will invest in at least 3-4 promising youngsters, aiming to nurture and polish their skills for the future. The franchise is expected to allocate a portion of their remaining INR 2.10 crore budget to build a robust Indian core, mirroring their successful approach in the men's category.

Here's what he said:

“What they will do is use this WPL auction as a platform for investment. They will unearth uncut and unpolished diamonds like they always do. I am sure that they will pick up three players for the future. They will develop their skills so that they are going to serve them in the years to come."

“I think that's exactly what Mumbai Indians are going to do in this auction. They will look for young Indian players because they know that you need to have a strong Indian contingent in your squad for you to win tournaments.”

As the WPL 2024 tournament looms on the horizon, scheduled for February or March next year, all eyes are on Mumbai Indians as they seek to maintain their supremacy with a judicious blend of experienced players and emerging talents.
